Dr. Basil Armonis, MD, PhD
Consultant Medical Oncologist
Dr. Basil Armonis, MD, PhD, Consultant Medical Oncologist comes from Athens, Greece where he was serving as Director Medical Oncologist at the major Oncology Hospital of this country. He has joined the Doctors Hospital as they work towards the enhancement of their Medical Oncology Service, by providing full-time the complete range of state of the science specialist care to patients from the Cayman Islands as well as to those coming from the Sister Islands. Dr. Armonis is very well-known in the Cayman Islands community as until March 2019 he successfully offered his knowledge, skills and experience as an Oncologist at the HSA.
For cancer patients as also for those investigated for a possible cancer, it is important that the Oncology Services they need are of high standards, easily accessible anytime around the clock and round the year and close to home.
“It is a pleasure to be returning to the Cayman Islands, a place I love among people I love and I do care for. As the head of the Doctors Hospital Oncology Services, it is my firm commitment to be always available and to help patients in the Cayman Islands receiving timely high-quality specialist care they need and expect not far from their home. For Cayman Islands patients, obviating the need to travel overseas to receive specialist Oncology care helps them maintain the quality of their life and their family. Patients that decide to have the specialist services offered at Doctors Hospital will be exposed to less physical as well as less psychological distress and less financial burden than if they would have chosen an overseas centre. This way our cancer patients will not have their lives disrupted by the need to often travelling abroad and they will have more time to physically and emotionally recover as well as to spend it with family and friends doing things they love and possibly to look after their businesses”, said Dr. Armonis.
Prior to Dr. Basil Armonis’ arrival, Dr. Dwight Lowe, a visiting oncologist/hematologist, travelled from Jamaica once a month to treat patients at Doctors Hospital. Dr. Lowe, will continue to provide medical care for patients with hematological conditions.
